Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. (Luke 5:4, KJV)
When it comes to fishing, it will interest you to know that fishermen do not let down their nets; they “cast them.” What is the difference between casting a net and letting it down?
To cast a net means to throw with force while to let down means to drop with ease.
Peter was a renowned fisherman who was skilled and knew the rudiments of fishing. I believe when Jesus Christ said to him; “Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets”, Peter must have thought to himself; does he know what he is saying? Does he not know that I am a professional fisherman? And he replied Jesus saying; …we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. Meaning “if I, a professional fisherman have toiled and caught nothing, you should know nothing can be caught therefore. But to prove to you that there is no fish to be caught today, I’ll do it.” Then he reluctantly let go of the net.
You know, the one who created the earth will not have any problem calling all the fishes He created to assemble at Peter’s net.
So are some people today, they think they have come to that point in their lives that they need to make self decisions, against God’s counsel and even when the Spirit of God ministers to their hearts to do something, they would say we have toiled all night and have caught nothing, so we want to try another means.
Verse 8 tells us that when Peter saw the miraculous, he feel to his face in recognition of the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Let down your net also tells us that to be obedient to God delivers to us fruitful results with less effort than when we struggle with God.
What has God asked you to do that you are still holding firmly to, not wanting to release? If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land says God’s word; Isaiah 1:19.
Why keep struggling when you can let God. Let go and see that things can only get better for you!
It is well with you!
