And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. (1 Chronicles 4:10, KJV)
The book of 1 Chronicles 4 speaks of the genealogy of the tribe of Judah, and somewhere along the line the author thought for a minute to speak concerning a man named Jabez.
Even though his biography was very brief, it spoke volumes not only about the necessity of prayer but also that we have a God who hears and answers prayers.
Some times when the challenges of life becomes overwhelming, it may cause us to begin to wonder if what we have believed for years is actually true, and in some cases, others may completely deny the faith they once upheld.
Beloved, if you read from verse 1 of 1st Chronicles 4, you would observe that the author just kept on reeling out names but when it got to verse 9 to 10, he needed to go beyond just mentioning the name to sharing the encounter of a man who knew he did not want to end up like every other man in his family, and that man was Jabez.
He saw a partner that seemed predominant; everyone was contented being just ordinary, but he knew there was more, so he tarried in the place of prayer.
You see, there is the kind of pattern or challenge that may be manifesting in your lineage that requires more than just going to church but to also press in the place of prayer in order to enforce delivery of what God has promised. When I say press, I mean tarrying and groaning in the Spirit calling into the deep and not the surface style of praying without expectation.
Child of God, even Jesus Christ said in Matthew 17:21:
“Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”
The above kind of prayer is not the type where you forget yourself or get carried away or be distracted. It is the time that says if I perish, I perish. What is there to lose?
Beloved, certain situations requires more than just praying, and I believe that was the case of Jabez.
Was there no one who prayed in his lineage? I believe there was but his own case was singled out because he needed to go beyond the tradition of praying without result and indeed his testimony was heard.
Child of God, what is that thing that has caused you to begin to challenge what you once believed and upheld? Then it is time to go a step forward and fight harder, and as you do, the God who heard and answered Jabez will answer you, in Jesus Name!
I pray for you, child of God, may your faith be restored, and the grace to receive answers be birthed in you, in Jesus Precious Name!
PRAYER POINT:
Lord, please restore my faith and give me the grace to tarry in the place of prayer, in Jesus Precious Name!
You are blessed!
