WAITING ON HIM?

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (John 14:3, KJV)

The story was told of a man who was sailing with his two children when their boat sank. The daughter could not swim but the son could float on his back. The father told him to do so, while he swam the daughter safely to shore.

When the father returned with the boat owner in another boat to pick up the son, the son was still confidently floating on his back. When the boat owner helped the boy out of the water, he asked him if he had been afraid. No. My dad loves me, and he promised he would be back was his reply.

What a profound confidence!

Even though the young man did not know when his father would return, he chose to believe he would, and confidently waited for his father nonetheless, by staying afloat until he came.

The above story of the young man’s attitude while he waited for his father’s return is a classical example of how the children of God ought to be confident as we wait for the return of our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ. However, a lot of believers are beginning to be weary.

While some have started wondering if Jesus would indeed return again as He promised; others are doubting their faith while some have totally left the faith. But they forgot that before Jesus Christ left the earth, He knew that waiting for His second coming would not be an easy task for us that is why he told us in John 14:1:

Let not your heart be troubled…

He was simply saying that even if His take longer than we expect, we should not be troubled!

Just like the young man in our story who chose not to be troubled because his father promised to return for him, Jesus gave us that assurance in John 14:1B:

… ye believe in God, believe also in me.

The Lord never told us that waiting for His return would be easy, but He did give an assurance by promising us that He would send us the Holy Spirit to comfort us while we wait.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; (John 14:16)

Why would Jesus pray the Father to send us the Comforter?

I will not leave you comfortless… (John 14:18 KJV)

He knows that loneliness would result in us doubting His sincerity to return, and possibly, cause us to backslide.

Jesus obviously knows that waiting requires a great deal of patience, that by our own strength we cannot prevail and only the Holy Spirit can strengthen us while we wait. But how many of us can say without a doubt that we are like the young man who was without fear or doubt?

Waiting may not be easy, and as much as we need the Holy Spirit to strengthen us, the Word of God admonishes us to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might – Ephesians 6:10.

We must be strong and continue to press on and press the upward way because we will certainly reap if we faint not.

It is my prayer therefore that you receive strength as we wait joyful for the return of our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, in Jesus Name. Amen!

It is well with you!
