Back in my university it was fun to be a member of the Kegite Club. It was no news to hear that the Kegite Club is an undercover umbrella where members of different cult groups converge as one to have fun, forgetting their differences, and that I believe gave birth to the slogan “UNITY IN DIVERSITY.”
Coming back home to Christianity, the church of Christ, using Nigeria as an instance, have a body that oversees all Christian bodies in Nigeria, CAN. Yet the division in the fold is almost worse than having nothing. Because it is within the same fold, people who claim to have a common vision; to evangelise Christ, in preparation of His imminent coming to castigate one another using doctrine and personal struggles to verbally be-head one another. No wonder when you look around the world today, even in the midst of prayer, you see evil thrive like no man’s business because there is no more fire on the altar. Some have so much circularise the church that things which were considered morally wrong have now become the core message of the church. Members who are struggling with sin confides in their shepherds, and the shepherd makes the secrets the message the next Sunday, yet we wonder where the fire has gone.
A man of God falls and needs a helping hand, instead you see another pastor on television criticise and paint him a devil, forgetting that a righteous man falleth seven times but rises up again.
While other religions are fighting to exterminate the Christian Faith, selfishness, self centredness, supremacy and most terribly, doctrinal issues are what we argue about in the fold.
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? (Matthew 7:11)
If cultists can forget their hate agenda once in a while to unite against their diverse orientations to have fun, how much more the church where Christ sits as King?
It is time for all denominations to arise in one accord to seek God’s face, even in these trying times because even the bible, God’s Word preaches unity in diversity; Matthew 18:19.
I think its time to do away with our racial, tribal, cultural and doctrinal sentiments and unite as one to make the world a better place, even as we anticipate the second coming our the Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.
