For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (Ephesians 2:8, KJV)

The grace of God as established in scripture, is a gift from God and not a product of our works or self righteousness. No wonder the scripture says in Exodus 33:19

“… and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.”

If the grace of God is a gift, it then follows that the Owner; God Almighty, reserves the absolute right to do with it whatsoever He pleases. He can decide to show mercy on us or not if He so pleases, but thank God we have access to His mercy through His Son, Jesus Christ!

It is true that the grace of God makes us free, however, as free as it is, it is wisdom to do only those things which would provoke God to constantly release it unto us. No wonder the scripture says:

“As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.” (1 Peter 2:16).

As much as the grace of God is free, one can still fall from it. That is, by certain actions, one can seize being a beneficiary of God’s grace.

From scripture, there are those who experienced the abundant grace of God upon their lives yet ended up badly. Let’s take a quick look at only two of them: 1. Gehazi: This man saw the great power of God in the life of his master, Elisha.

As a matter of fact, he was the next in line to receive the mantle of power from his master, just as his master got his from Elijah.

Driven by greed, he did not see the great future he had, instead, he ran after temporary benefits through deceit. Instead of getting empowered for exploits, he fell and got cursed with leprosy instead. – 2 Kings 5:20-27. 2. Demas: This was a man that tasted first hand, the working wonders of God through the ministry of Apostle Paul, and Paul acknowledged him in Colossians 4:14. However, in 2 Timothy 4:10, this same man had fallen off grace. Dear friend, the doctrine of Calvinism is not of God, that is, the doctrine of eternal security; once saved, forever saved.

From the above passages, we have been able to establish that the only way to remain once saved, forever saved, is to constantly work out our salvation with fear and trembling by daily aligning ourselves to the Master’s will.

It is my prayer therefore that the grace to remain faithful and steadfast in the ways of the Lord, be released upon us this day, in Jesus Precious Name. Amen! It is well with you! https://samsonaboloje.wordpress.com
