My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: (John 10:27, KJV)
An African proverb says; “dog wey wan lost no dey hear im master whistle.”
In Luke 15:4-5, Jesus told a parable of a lost sheep, a parable depicting how much He loves sinners and how willing He is never to let them go, no matter what.
It will amaze you to know that all sheep have a tendency to congregate close to other members of the flock. They exhibit this flocking tendency when they are in a group of four or more. No wonder the bible says not to forsake the assembly of brethren because we may wonder into the world; Hebrews 10:25.
The shepherd knows it is unusual for his sheep to wonder away in the midst of the flock so he goes after it to ensure its safety, and thus bring it back home. No wonder Isaiah 53:6 says:
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Jesus Christ being our shepherd is responsible for our safety, hence He comes after us when we wonder away.
It will interest you to know that if I call my dog by whistle and a stranger hears me and tries the same thing, my dog will not answer because every herd knows when their shepherd calls.
But today, like Isaiah 53:6, we have decided to wonder away, ignoring our shepherd’s call. We think the laws of our Shepherd are too rigid and have made for ourselves laws to suit us. Some think they are still in the fold not knowing that like the proverbial dog they are headed for doom by ignoring the shepherd’s call.
Our Shepherd, Jesus Christ is still and always willing and able to restore us back to the fold no matter how far or how long we have wondered away, but the question is; ARE YOU READY TO HEED THE SHEPHERD’s CALL?
It is well with you!
