He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1, KJV)
The secret place is a place of separation. It is a place where we strategise, restrategise, organise and reorganize ourselves both spiritually and physically, in other to bounce back with fresh new ideas, vigour and power.
The secret place is made up of two words; “secret” and “place”.
While a secret is something that is done without the knowledge of others, a “place” is a space or an area set apart for a particular purpose. So put simply, a secret place is a space or area set apart for the purpose of doing things without the knowledge of others.
It is true that the children of darkness maximize the use of the secret place, only that their gathering is unto the devil, and to afflict people.
Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. (Isaiah 54:15)
You will discover from the above scripture that the children of darkness must gather in their coven, however, those who dwell in the secret place of the most High shall be under God’s protection (paraphrased). God’s children are always exempted from the onslaught of the powers of darkness.
So how do we, God’s children, gain access to the secret place? Matthew 6:6 says:
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
The secret place is a place of seclusion either for a group of people or for individuals.
It is not enough however, to just shut ourselves in our closests, we must continually abide in the secret place by the help of the Holy Ghost to fully maximize the benefits of the secret place that is why our anchor scripture says “He that dwelleth… ” and to dwell means to be a permanent resident. It is a continuous process or lifestyle and not a one off thing. And when we have developed the art of dwelling in the secret place, the Bible says that God will then begin to reveal His secrets to us:
The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. (Psalms 25:14)
It is in the secret place that we have access to the mind of God.
The secret place is also a place of protection because it is our place of refuge in times of trouble:
The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. (Proverbs 18:10)
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. (Psalm 27:5)
The secret place is a place of revelation.
Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. (Amos 3:7)
And we know that vision is the key to provision because…
For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. (Genesis 13:15)
When divine revelation flows, divine direction follows that is why the Bible says in Proverbs 29:18:
“Where there is no vision, the people perish…”
The secret place is a place of power.
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…” Acts 1:8
And this power does not just come. We can only access it by “TARRYING” in the place of prayer.
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. (Luke 24:49)
To tarry means to stay or to remain. In otherwords, God expects us to remain in the place of prayer until power comes.
As one of my mentors puts it, “it is the fire that we individually carry that makes the church hot“. And this fire can only be caught by tarrying in the secret place. The benefits of tarrying in the secret place cannot be overemphasized.
It is my prayer therefore that as you begin to tarry in the secret place, may you begin to see, with undeniable proofs, the blessedness of waiting in the secret place, in Jesus Name.
