For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. (Luke 21:15, KJV)
The story was told of a man who wanted to know how powerful words are, so he planted two seeds in separate bowls and every morning when he wakes up he would go to the first bowl and declare blessings on it, saying it would not only grow well but yield bountifully. He would then proceed to the second bowl and lay loads of curses on it that it would never do well and would never yield any fruits.
Fast forward, after a few months, the one he blessed not only grew well, but also yielded very good fruits, while the one he cursed was the exact opposite of the first one, it never grew well neither did it yield any fruit.
The above story shows how powerful our words are; they can either make or break us, and sadly, a lot of Christians do not understand the powerful mystery behind spoken words that is why a lot of the time they speak negatively over themselves and wonder why things are not working, but they forget what the bible says in Psalm119:130:
“The entrance of thy words giveth light…”
If the entrance of God’s Word gives light, by implication, the entrance of negative words will always produce darkness. That is why the bible says in Romans 10:17:
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Because the scriptures cannot be broken, one will always get the result for whatever he hears. But because faith comes by hearing, and hearing of God’s Word, we can upturn every negative utterance made against us by the adversaries, and even those we caused by self by the Word of God.
If faith comes by hearing God’s Word, then it means discouragement and fear comes by hearing the words of the adversaries and that was what Goliath used against the children of Israel in 1 Samuel 17:10-11
“And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.”
Even the king was afraid, not only because he chose to believe the words of Goliath, but because Goliath cursed the army of Israel with his gods. But when David came into the picture, the story turned. And Goliath tried to use the same tactics as he had used on the king and his host of army:
“… And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.” – 1 Samuel 17:43
But David was a wise lad. He understood the power behind spoken words and the forces behind them so he refused to listen to Goliath; instead he returned fire for fire:
“… I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied”. – 1 Samuel 17:45
He refused to keep quiet because he knew he had a greater power inside of him
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” – 1 John 4:4
He refused to keep quiet. “Then said David to the Philistine…” He spoke back! He invoked the power of God’s Word against Goliath and Goliath lost his head.
No matter what negative utterances anyone has made against you, refuse to accept it, but counter it by speaking positively over your life and back it up by God’s Word and you begin to see the manifestation of God’s power over your life.
However, if you are not born again, you do not have the authority to counter the adversary that is why you need Jesus in your life.
Accept Jesus today and He will empower you against your adversaries.
Prayer Point:
Father, I upturn every negativity that I have spoken against myself and that has been spoken against me, in Jesus Mighty Name.
It is well with you!
