And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver. (1 Kings 20:39, KJV)
A wise man said the word “FOCUS” means to “FOLLOW ONE CAUSE UNTIL SUCCESSFUL” but today we see a lot of people pursuing different things at the same time and ending up mastering none!
The parable in 1 Kings 1:39-40, gives us a very good illustration of the need and importance of staying focused.
While it is true that some individuals have multiple gifts or talents, as the case may be, it is very vital to nurture them into maturity, one after another, so that one does not end up being a jack of all trades and master of none.
In 1 Kings 20:40, the Prophet in his parable said:
“And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone….”
And we have so many here and there people today, even in church.
I remember one fellow who was in our Parish in Apapa many years ago but left the church completely for another, and when we saw after some time, told me how spectacular the new place was. Not long afterwards, when we spoke, same fellow hard moved to a totally new church. And just last year during a family event, I saw her and we exchanged pleasantries, and to my greatest surprise, she said she is now in a completely different church from all others. To the best of my knowledge, this fellow has moved to at least 5 different churches, and who knows if it is not even more?
Jesus Christ in emphasizing the importance of staying focused, said in Matthew 6:22:
“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”
We must learn to “Follow One Cause Until Successful – FOCUS” if we hope to achieve anything worthwhile!
Apostle Paul, while speaking on the need for staying focused, has this to say:
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (Philippians 3:13, KJV)
So to achieve anything meaningful in life, we must stay focused on it and pursue it with all diligence!
“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.” – FOCUS!
At first, it will certainly not look it, but keep going… give it your best.
When others are mocking… Stay focused!
While they laugh… Keep pressing on!
Giving up should never be an option because there is certainly no prize for failure… Keep going!
And one day… Just one day, the result of your staying focused will appear to all, and you will be glad you never gave up!
You are blessed!
Prayer Point:” Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, the King of glory, I receive grace to stay focused. Help me not to give up at the verge of my breakthrough, in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!
