For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
(Psalms 5:12)
To bless means to ask of the spiritual to show favour on someone to bring about the fellow’s happiness. And favour is an act performed out of good will, generosity or preference of one over the other.
But in this case we are referring to divine blessings and favour. That which can come from God alone, because there are other sources where one can get blessed, and of course such blessings do not come without a price at the long run.
From the above passage, it is important to note that the Psalmist did not say “Thou oh Lord will bless everybody…” but he specifically said “the righteous” which points to the fact that it is only through righteousness that we can have access to divine favour.
If God decides to bless everyone, whether or not they live righteously, then the purpose of salvation would be totally defeated. Righteousness is, has always been and will remain the only way to gain access to divine blessings and favour.
If you read through the scriptures, you will discover that God NEVER blessed any unrighteous man because He cannot behold sin and those who tried to make it by using other means and shortcuts to had themselves to blame. Ask Achan, Judas or Gehazi.
Righteousness is the only way to get to the top and sin only breeds stagnation and ultimately leads to destruction! (Proverbs 14:34)
I pray that as you begin to walk in the path of righteousness, may God grant you His favour, in Jesus Mighty Name!
Divine favour and blessings are yours this week, in Jesus Name!
It is well with you!
