THE HEALING BALM

“Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?” (Jeremiah 8:22, KJV)

The balm of Gilead was a rare perfume that was used medicinally for healing and soothing. However, it also refers to the concept of salvation and healing through Jesus Christ.

When you read from verse 1 of Jeremiah chapter 8, you would see that the Prophet Jeremiah was worried about the people of Judah who had forsaken the Lord and had given themselves heavily to sin and iniquity, including the priests and prophets, just like the times we now live in; a time where men and women no longer considers the scriptures to be sacrosanct and have began questioning why people would live righteous lives when they can enjoy their sinful lifestyles.

Just recently, I saw someone who is an ORDAINED minister, or suppose to be, question why singles should not enjoy fornication, all in a bid to sexually know who they plan to marry. She then went on to say WHOEVER SAID SEX OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE IS A SIN IS WICKED BECAUSE HE OR SHE IS ONLY TRYING TO STOP PEOPLE FROM ENJOYING THEMSELVES! What a wicked and heretic statement!

The people of Judah, had tasted and experienced God’s divine intervention first hand, yet still decided to forget all the Lord had done for them and gave themselves to sin and iniquity.

While the balm in Gilead is interpreted to be a spiritual medicine that is able to heal, the prophet wondered why the people were still spiritually sick when they had access to it. And of course the answer was not far fetched; sin and wickedness!

In the world today, people celebrate sin and considers righteousness as sin.

A few days ago I was having a conversation with someone and she could not but wonder why the world no longer considers righteousness as the way to go and you wonder why we no longer see God’s Hand at work.

Not long ago the video of a particular preacher who was giving himself to an harlot and drinking beer surfaced online, and in trying to make a defense for himself, rather than repent, said there are those who do more than he did, just that they have not been caught. Then you begin to wonder why we no longer see the power of God work among us.

It is because of sin, and a lot of people have called themselves to ministry, thereby making ridicule of our faith because they’re not called!

As a dear friend of mine would say, “THERE IS POWER AS OF OLD, WE ARE THE ONES NOT SERVING THE FATHER AS OF OLD!”

The healing balm of Gilead is still very much potent today but it is we, the body of Christ, that have refused to turn away from sin and iniquity, rather we make allowances for sin by preaching “HYPER-GRACE; the kind of grace that allows you to continue in sin because Jesus has paid the price.”

Beloved, Jesus Christ did not pay the price on the cross so that we can continue in sin. He paid it to redeem us from sin and death.

I don’t know what anyone has told you or what doctrine the devil is trying to sell to you, but I assure you that the healing balm of Gilead is still very potent if we but turn away from our sin and from our wicked ways – 2 Chronicles 7:14.

If you have not given your life to Christ or still playing church, beloved, this is the day to repent and forsake sin in order to see His Hands on your life.

Why not surrender to Him today by confessing your sins to Him?

Ask Him to show you His mercy, forgive you and cleanse you, and without any doubt He will show you His Hands.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, have mercy on me and help. And let the healing balm of Gilead who You sent to redeem mankind heal me of all my sickness and diseases, in Jesus Precious Name!

You are blessed!
