For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21, KJV)
A friend’s post on facebook reads;
“You could die and die for nothing, if you should live, live for something worthwhile.”
The issue of death is a mystery that no mortal can explain. Scientists worldwide have worked and are still working on ways to slow down the ageing process of man. Some have invented cosmetology to enhance the skin in other to make it look younger even in old age. Good! What about the cells, tissues, veins and vessels in the body system? In spite of it all, there has not been and never will there be anyway of making man live “forever on planet earth.”
In make Matthew 16:25, Jesus said;
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
From the above we can say there is a proper way to die. No wonder Paul, in 1 Corinthians 15:31 said… I die daily. Dying daily means to deny one’s self of worldly pleasures for the sake of Christ.
Like my friend said in her post… live for something worthwhile.
How then can we live a life that is worthwhile?
Jesus, in John 15:14 said:
“Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”
He said this to enjoin us to live holy lives because the bible says without holiness we cannot see God; Hebrews 12:14. And holiness is not a one off thing or something we faith! Holiness is cultivated. No wonder you hear great men of God say they have not started because the more you dig deep, the more you realise there is much more to learn and do. And some who do not even know when they will die, deceiving themselves will say they will accept Jesus before they die but for now, that they want to enjoy life. Yet they forget Galatians 6:7.
Apostle Paul chose to die daily for Jesus sake that he may live in Him, and at the end he said in 2 Timothy 4:7-8;
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me…”
The best way to die is to die in Christ, and like my friend said, You could die and die for nothing, so why not decide to live for Jesus?
