Success can be a killer

And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith. (Judges 15:15, KJV)

Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her. (Judges 16:1, KJV)

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. (Daniel 1:8, KJV)

Adversity kills so also can success. Success can be a killer because when a man is successful he must be careful of pride, immorality and indiscipline for these 3 can cripple him. Samson in the book of Judges was a man whom God had just given victory over his enemies that he slew a thousand men, but his next thing he did was to sleep with an harlot. But Daniel understood the principle of “not all that glitters is gold.” If it were to be today, halleluyah would be our song. Perhaps we would say God has opened a door for us to dine with Kings but Daniel understood that God will not give him such a gift as to eat a sacrifice because He wanted him to dine with Kings. Daniel realised that the gift of eating the kings portion would defile him so he refused. Some are carried away by materialism such that they regard others as irrelevant or unimportant. Some, upon being blessed use same blessings to intimidate others. Has God blessed you? Please be careful of pride, immorality and indiscipline.
