SOWING INTO THE FUTURE!

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. (Matthew 7:12, KJV)

The story was told of a lecturer who was fond of victimising students. The more he did the more he remained at a spot because while his former students became professors and some of them eventually becoming Vice Chancellors of the same institution, he never got beyond PhD, still he would not stop being wicked until he was mandated to resign after it was discovered that he kept students from graduating for no apparent reason.

FAST FORWARD: Many years later, one of his sons had become a contractor and was pursuing a multimillion dollar deal with an international oil and gas organisation. After going through all the processes, at the last stage, the man in charge of sealing the deal sent for him and asked if he was related to the lecturer. With a broad smile on his face, he answered in the affirmative and the man went on to tell him how his father frustrated him all through school that he had to abandon his project to start afresh in another institution. Afterwards, he told him that he would *”NEVER GET THE DEAL”* so long as he was the one in charge. And indeed, the young man did not get it.

His father’s sin finally caught up with him.

There is also the story of another man who joyfully helped the people around him, strangers inclusive, whenever he could.

He rendered help to so many people that many years after he had passed on his children were still yielding the dividend of his kindness when people hear their surname.

The reactions were always the same; “ARE YOU THE CHILD OF SO AND SO? YOUR FATHER WAS A VERY GOOD MAN.”

So many people committed themselves to helping them because their father sowed positively into their future, as such they never lacked anything because several people were available to reciprocate their late father’s kind gesture while he was alive.

Sadly, so many people, even in church, are just like the lecturer. They see every position they have as a means of lording over others not knowing that God gave them the position as a privilege of sowing into posterity.

To some, God gave them the opportunities to occupy such positions to test them to see how they would behave when He blesses them with much but a lot of people fail the test and remain in that low level because God knows they will wreck havoc if He promotes them.

A man of God once said that you may not yield the benefits of your relationship with those around you today until about five, ten, fifteen or even thirty years time so, if you make a mess of your relationship with people today, you may just be sowing a bitter seed for yourself against your future.

It may not even be for you but your children, that is why we must be very careful how we treat others today.

Imagine how the lecturer made a mess of his son’s future all because of his wickedness, thereby rubbing him off a lifetime opportunity.

Our positions today are but a privilege to bless others and not victimise them or to prove that we are in charge because life has a way of bringing back those things we have done back to us, whether positive or negative, that is why we must be careful how we treat others.

PRAYER POINTS: Father, please don’t let me misuse the opportunities you have given me to bless others, in Jesus Mighty Name! Amen.

It is well with you!
