And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. (1 Kings 17:13, KJV)
God does not accept every sacrifice that we give, except they are sacrifices given in love, joyfully and out of a cheerful heart. We are not expected to give only when we have, but also when the chips are down! If you read verse 11 and 12 of the above chapter, you will discover the poor widow was a sacrificial giver. Even though she had but a handful left, she still cheerfully shared with Elijah, even though she did not know God was going to rain an OVERFLOW of blessings upon her.
If it were some of us, I believe we would have said; “oga, you dey hear word so? I just tell you say na the last one dey and you say first make for you and you see say I get pikin. You no dey sorry for person?” She gave sacrificially and it yielded an OVERFLOW!
So also is the widow in 2 Kings chapter 4 who cried to Elisha. When Elisha asked her what she had, one would expect that perhaps Elisha wanted to use what she had to go and appeal to the creditors but she did not care, she was willing to give it all away (sacrificially) just to save her two sons but she ended up becoming a major oil distributor.
Matthew 19:16-22 tells us about a young man who wanted to make heaven but was not willing to sacrifice anything. He came to Jesus Christ and asked how he could make heaven and Jesus said sell all you have, give to the poor and come and follow me, but he left sad because he was not willing to sacrifice anything.
When we give sacrificially, we provoke God’s rain of blessings. Also note that the purpose of giving sacrificially is not because we want God to multiply it back in return, but because it is the right thing to do; Psalms 126:5-6.
Has God led you to sow into your Pastor’s life or someone else’s for that matter but you have refused? You would be doing yourself a world of good if you obeyed.
It is well with you!
