MAKING SMART CHOICES!

Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. (Deuteronomy 2:24, KJV)

A wise man once said that “any faith” that commits God 100% is irresponsibility, and I totally agree with him. All through scriptures, God never did anything for man without man’s commitment; salvation inclusive! So until we seek wisdom and find understanding, we would be tempted to believe that it is God’s absolute responsibility to do everything for man.

There as so many scriptures that teach on man’s involvement in God’s divine plan, amongst which is Deuteronomy 2:24. After God had declared that He had given the king of Heshbon and his land to His people, He went on to telling them to possess it by contending with them in battle, which underscores man’s involvement. God could have as well miraculously given them the land, but He needed them to take responsibility!

It is however disheartening today that a lot of people want God to take full responsibility for their irresponsibility, thereby tagging it as “faith”. Faith is playing your part and trusting God to play His, and ignorance is being irresponsible yet expecting God to act.

We need to understand, however, that faith and ignorance are two different things and do not go together. Though some confuse them to be the same, they are opposite sides of a coin.

In times such as this when the whole world is battling a pandemic, faith means taking responsible steps to protect yourself, your family and indeed, your community from the plague that has besieged most nations of the world and trusting God to keep it far away from you. However, it beats my imagination that some people who are supposed to be wise, according to man’s standard, are the same people who propagate or indirectly encourage people to involve themselves in risky activities when they know the risk involved, and still believe no harm can befall them. It is absolute stupidity to put oneself in harm’s way and expect divine intervention. Proverbs 4:7 says:

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

The value of wisdom is supreme so we must make it a priority to get wisdom, that is why Proverbs 2:11 says:

“Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:”

Those who know the Lord and the wisdom He gives will know what course of action to follow when it comes to making smart choices. So wisdom in times like this is to stay put by avoiding actions that can cost one his or her life and can be detrimental to the well being of others.

I have watched with disdain how some people are encouraging others to take actions that are risky, and others, making jokes with the tragedy of the pandemic. Those are not just numbers but actual human beings that have died and the amount of pain some families are going through right now can only be best imagined. So making jokes of the dead is totally irresponsible and I believe God Himself is not happy because not all who have died was saved!

This time calls for sober reflection! We should not only examine our stand with the Lord, but remember our family, friend, church, the world at large and all the families who have lost a loved one, and that my friend is making smart choices!

It is my prayer that beginning from now, you would make only choices that would not only bring glory to God, but that which will help alleviate the effect of the global pandemic, in Jesus Name.

You are blessed!

Prayer Point: Father, please forgive me in anyway my action has been detrimental to the fight of Covid-19, and help me henceforth to make smart choices, in Jesus Precious Name. Amen!
