LOVE OR LUST?

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness which is idolatry. (Colossians 3:5, KJV)

The practise or celebration of Valentine’s day has been for decades now and every New Year comes with something new to attach to the practice. Prior to now, the practise was majorly amongst matured adults, but as time passed, the unprepared single adults joined in, as morality gradually faded away and today even schools have began to encourage the innocent little children to dress in white and red to school, all for the sakes of “Valentine” and by the time they grow up it would have become the “NEW NORMAL” to them.

The practise of Valentine is not an issue, but how it is practised. Valentine’s day as seen by the world today, need I say it is not biblical, is a day set aside for massive sexual immorality as a whole lot of people have come to be believe that love must be expressed by means of sexual intimacy, especially between the unmarried and adulterers. Indeed sexual intimacy within the confines of marriage is a good thing as it is ordained by God to cement the union, but when it is done “OUTSIDE” marriage, even by those that are engaged is a great sin against God and self; 1 Corinthians 6:13 – 20.

Valentine’s day or no Valentine’s day, Jesus Christ have shown us the template on how to love and anything outside AGAPE LOVE is LUST. Our reading says to mortify our members against sinful pleasures and to mortify means to subdue the body or its needs and desires. Mortify, coined out of the Latin word “Mortificare” means to put to death.

Valentine’s day, going by the origin, is not a day for sexual promiscuity or looseness, but a day someone died for the cause of what he believed in.

Besides, love is about self sacrifice and not self centred.

What do you believe in, love or lust?

It is well with you!
