LOVE OBEYS!

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: (Exodus 19:5, KJV) A story was told of a King that had a servant whom Him loved and cherished so much that He entrustehd Him with all that He had made and gave him authority over them all. However, He instructed him concerning a particular one that He must not touch.

The King loved His servant so much that He visited him in the cool of the day to fellowship with Him.

On one fateful day, the King’s enemy came to trick the servant against the King’s command and succeeded.

And in the cool of the day as usual, the King came to fellowship with His servant but the servant was nowhere to be found.

At the end of the day, the King realised that the servant had tampered with what he was told not to touch and the servant, instead of being remorseful, blamed it on the King Himself. To love is an intense feeling of affection and care towards another person. While to obey is to do as ordered by a person, institution, etc. If the above definition of love and obedience is anything to go by, then it will not be out of place to say that the book of John chapter 14 and verse 15 is absolutely correct, because our Lord, Jesus Christ, said that the proof of love is obedience: “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” Jesus is saying here that the only way by which we can prove our love for Him is to obey His commandments and commandments as defined by English dictionary “are set of instructions that MUST be obeyed.” Every biblical commandment given to man is for his own benefit, in other words, the benefits of obedience is not for God, but for us. Let us examine a few passages: “… the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” – John 6:63 “… I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” – Deuteronony 30:19 Amongst other things, obedience to God’s Word gives us eternal life, while disobedience to it makes us a prey to the devil: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10. Jesus Christ is the Word of God and the only ways we can have access to eternal life is to accept Him into our hearts and obey Him to the latter because partial obedience is absolute disobedience. Remember the young Prophet in 1 Kings 13? It is my prayer therefore, that as we profess to love God, may we also open our hearts to obey Him always, in Jesus Mighty Name! It is well with you! https://samsonaboloje.wordpress.com
