Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (Colossians 3:2, KJV)
There is the account of a rich man whom God called a fool in Luke 12:16-21.
This man, having been blessed, began to make boast in himself; *”Yes! I have arrived!”*, As though he made it by his own power. However, he died prematurely, not enjoying what he had boasted about.
The point is not to say we will die if we become rich, because it is God’s desire that we become rich, but not at the expense of our souls nor should we glory in ourselves.
“And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.” (Luke 12:19)
The scripture teaches us a very valuable lesson in same Luke 12 and verse 21:
“So is he that layeth up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
Which brings 3 John 2 to mind.
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
God wants us to grow materially as much as He wants us to grow spiritually. He doesn’t want us to lack as much as He does not want us to suffer eternal damnation.
If you read Luke 12:22 down, you will discover that God has a divine plan for our provision. Please note that this does not in anyway mean laziness or that we should not work; we must engage ourselves productively!
However, so many impatient people who feel God is too slow and cannot wait for His plan to manifest, strike deals with the devil at the expense of their souls.
The reality of the times we live in today is such that so many people no longer care about the consequences of their actions that young men and women now go into advanced fee fraud because of their love for material things.
Some go into ritual killings just to make money while some young ladies also freely give themselves to men whom they are not married to just to get by, while some have gone into full fledge prostitution to meet their needs. But this is what God is saying to us today:
“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. (1 Corinthians 15:19)”
Our targets should be to press towards the mark of the high calling of God in Christ so that when we get to the finish line we would be glad to hear God say “well done thou good and faithful servant” and this is why we should consistently ask ourselves these questions:
1. “WHERE WILL I GO WHEN I DIE?”
2. “WILL MY ACTIONS TODAY AFFECT WHERE I WILL SPEND ETERNITY?”
Your sincere answers will help you stay conscious of your actions.
Dear friend, it is note worthy to say that nobody goes to hell blindfolded. Where we spend eternity is totally dependent on how we live here on earth. And remember, everybody dies but not every needs to fear death so choose wisely how you live today!
I pray the Lord to give you the wisdom to live positively in Jesus name!
Prayer Point:
Father, by the blood of Jesus, cleanse me from everything and anything that would hinder me from making eternity with you, and help me live above the cares of this present world, in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!
You are blessed!!!
