And Elijah said unto her, “Fear not; go and do as thou hast said, but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and afterward make for thee and for thy son. (1 Kings 17:13, KJV)
When God told Elijah in verse 9 of the above chapter that He had commanded a widow to feed him, one would expect God was sending Him to someone very rich and wealthy who would have no problem rolling out drums of flour to bake bread for the prophet. But amazingly, God sent him to a “poor widow” who barely had what to eat herself.
When God makes divine provision for us, many a times we expect the “rich and famous” to be those whom God will use to provide for us not taking into cognisance the fact that when God decides to bless someone, only He dictates when, where and how to do it. If He blesses us through the same medium wherein we are trusting Him to bless us, the glory will be unto man rather than God.
In our reading above you would notice that the widow was “obedient” to the prophet’s instruction; this was someone who had just a meal left for herself and her son so they can eat and die, yet the prophet said “first make mine” and she obeyed and did it. Which calls Psalms 126:5-6 to mind Psalms 126:5 – 6 (Please read)
Which was the exact case of the widow in our reading.
Sometimes when we go through difficulties and feel all hope is lost, what we really need to do is sow. When it seems we have nothing to sow with, that very little thing we hold so tight and never want to let go thinking its all we have left could just be the key to opening the door of the overflow!
We cannot use a hand that is already occupied to hold on to more things that is why we must learn to drop somethings sometimes to be able to lift another.
God is forever ready and willing to bless you, but are you ready to let go of the one you are holding on to in other to receive the one He is giving?
It is well with you!
