The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. (Proverbs 10:22, KJV)
This quest for success and wealth these days has become alarming as the pursuit of fame and fortune is becoming the norm of our time. Most painful is that the church is gradually joining the race. The prosperity message is gradually eating away the salvation message which is the core reason why Christ came to die, and by accepting the price He paid on the cross every other thing will follow;
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)
We are expected to pursue heaven like no man’s business and at the end of the day, when our ways become right with God, every other thing will follow. Today, we pursue other things and want God’s kingdom to follow!
I met a friend a few weeks ago who happen to be a member of a Christian interdenominational fellowship and he told me in confidence that he has stopped because core of the messages being preached is prosperity and that they have ignored the salvation message. I remember I posted a comment on facebook sometime ago saying the church is sleeping and someone wanted to start a debate.
Indeed God wants us to prosper, but not at the expense of our souls; 3 John 2.
It is also true that man, with his own ability cannot make himself successful;
But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth… (Deuteronomy 8:18)
The general principle to Godly riches is summarised in Joshua 1:8;
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
In a nutshell, we are expected to cultivate a quality relationship with God for Him to establish us; … that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. (Deuteronomy 8:18)
The core message of the gospel is redemption, after which everything else will follow!
Are you pursuing wealth at the expense of your soul?
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36)
Anybody that encourages you to make wealth at the expense of your soul is against you because God wants your prosperity to align with your spiritual growth, so wait on Him and let His absolute will be done in your life!
It is well with you.
