For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. (1 Timothy 4:8, KJV)
A few years ago I went for a personal retreat in one of the Christian camps in Ogun State. I and some Pastors who were also there for a retreat got talking and one of the Pastors said “men of God, prosperity message is the new trend and that is where I focus my teachings now“.
I could not believe what I heard.
In our world today, the need for absolute consecration is gradually becoming a thing of the past.
To some, living holy can be best described as a mere imagination as some Christians now argue that holiness can never be achieved as humans, as such, the quest for materialism has taken the front row in some churches and as sad as it is to say, even some pastor have deviated from the core message of the gospel and have focused on the need for material gains.
Some have also infused the doctrine of materialism on their members so much so that all their members now think about is how to amass wealth for themselves at the expense of their souls.
Don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong in being blessed, both financially and materially, however, it is not to take the front seat in our lives as God is more concerned about the salvation of our souls than our quest for material gains, but these days people care more for materialism rather than the things of God.
Matthew 6:33 says:
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
But today a lot of people no longer worry about the kingdom of God so long as they are blessed materially forgetting that whatever will take us away from God is not His will for us, that is why the Bible says in Proverbs 10:22:
The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
A life without Christ will only lead to sorrow and pain, no matter how pleasant it seems today.
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. – 3 John 1:2.
God desires a genuine heart of worship and service which will then culminate in the manifestation of our material possessions.
Material blessings are the result of our spiritual connectivity with God, that is, you must live right with Him to get His blessings.
However, it must be noted that our service to God must not be on the premise of material blessings, but of a sincere heart of genuine service to Him.
It is my prayer that the grace to serve God genuinely be released upon you, in Jesus Name.
PRAYER POINT: Father, please help me to set my affection on the things above which are eternal, and not on material things that pass away, in Jesus Name!
It is well with you!
