Back in the days; between 70’s and early 90’s, the level of morality was very high because people feared God and genuinely seeked Him. They served Him with all their mights and with every form of sincerity trying to do what is pleasant to Him, even in their businesses and work place. In the advent of westernisation, people began to think God was an option because formulas began to emerge that profers a quick fix solutions to things, but soon, people also began to discover that only God holds the key to whatever they wanted but rather than submit to Him, they seek those they perceive can pray for them that’s why all we see today are people running from one church to another seeking miracles, and prayers from Pastors rather than the one than gives the miracles and anointing; Romans 1:21. According to our reading, the seven sons of Sceva knew there is power in the name of Jesus, but rather than submit to Jesus, they thought they could use Him as a tool and that is exactly what some people do today. I have had people asked me to pray for them, which is a good thing, but for us to fully harness the divine healing and provision of God, we have to build a relationship with Him, not use Him as a tool to getting what we want and dumping Him afterwards.
