And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. (Genesis 25:31, KJV)
A birthright is a right or privilege due to someone by birth into a family. It is not contestable or negotiable except one is disowned by the head of the family.
As children of God, redemption gives us access to the throne of God Almighty and His bountiful riches here on earth. By new birth, we are redeemed to be heirs of God with divine rights and these rights are not negotiable. It is also true that the devil knows a lot about this and tries to cause a division between us and our Father that is why he comes tempting us with what seem to be pleasurable, when indeed they are momentary, in other to make us forfeit our rights with God because sin is a major disqualifier of our rights.
Many have allowed the devil trick them to selling off their birthrights for sexual, monetary and material gains and pleasure, telling them that God is faithful and merciful and will forgive them, and because sin hardens the heart, before you know it they become entangled. Some even died in the process, which beg the question; what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
In today’s world, the devil has turned everything upside down and the societal norms and pressure will give you a million reasons why you should sell out, which may really seem like the right thing to do, but look within and listen to that still small voice that will give you just one reason why you must not to sell out.
Perhaps you have already sold your birthright or about to, God can restore you. We all at one point or the other sold out for temporal things and almost died in the process, but the ever merciful God brought us back and He will do same for you too, in Jesus Name!
I pray for the grace of God over your life not to sell out henceforth, in Jesus Precious Name. Amen!
