But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: (1 Peter 2:9, KJV)
The world is indeed a global village and the advent of the internet has brought the world to our door step, which is why whatever happens in Europe can be seen and heard in Africa almost immediately.
Television and radio programmes can now be viewed on the go; that is the power of social media.
However, in the midst of these, we cannot rule out the fact that the devil is now maximizing the use of these platforms to pollute the hearts of men through ungodly programmes and broadcast, thereby making it easy for a lot of people to drift from their divine purposes here on earth, that is why you see pornographic pictures and lewd posts on social media having tens of thousands of likes and views while the soul lifting and edifying posts hardly seeing the light of day.
From television news programmes to radio talk shows and from internet broadcast to print news, we are being bombarded daily to turn off our minds.
We are tempted to accept a wide variety of destructive ideas, from sexual promiscuity, all in the name of music videos, to drug abuse, indecent dressing to programmes that are rated as parental guidance yet loaded with explicit contents, and now, some so called advanced nations of the world are making laws that will encourage children in the path of homosexuality and lesbianism.
In these countries, children are allowed to determine their own gender irrespective of what gender they are born with, yet too often, Christians just sit down passively and watch.
We turn off our minds, we never act, much less react or fight against ungodly standards being shoved consciously or unconsciously into our minds and we forget that we are a people of purpose, called to show forth the praises of Him Who has called us out of darkness, and to fight against every ungodly standards, be alert to destructive ideas, active in propagating the gospel of truth and redeeming the time.
The bible says in Matthew 5:14:
“ Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”
We have been called to be different! We must refuse to conform to worldly standards.
Verse 13 of same chapter (paraphrased), says the salt that has lost its savour is good for nothing.
So if we, having been delivered from darkness still maintain worldly standards, then we are good for nothing!
As a people of purpose, we must think and act differently. We must learn to repel worldly standards and all the worldliness being shoved down our throats, all in the name of enlightenment, and as we do, the grace of God will become more manifest in our lives.
Prayer Point: Father, I receive grace to remain focused on my purpose here on earth, in Jesus Name!
